How to Macrame - Get Started with Knotting at Ellame Designs

Through the art of macrame, you can create nearly anything! This isn't like knitting, this all about knotting! Once you master the first few basic knots, you can create stunning macramé pieces to brighten up your home.
The first thing you will need is rope, a dowel and a couple of 'S' Hooks. You can purchase S Hooks from my online shop (you should only need two if you're working on a wall hanging). Dowels are easy to purchase and you can buy them in most home and garden stores such as B&Q (in the UK). Lastly, and most importantly, you will need macrame rope!
Macrame rope can be purchased from Amazon, Ebay and Etsy (go to Etsy if you are looking for a better quality rope). If you search for macrame rope in your area you may be able to support a local artist like me! I currently offer black and tropical blue rope on my site but will be stocking more in the future.

When you have mastered a couple of basic projects, my advice would be to move on to creating slightly larger wall hangings which require a little more accuracy. These won't take you long to master and the patterns themselves are super simple, so you will pick them up very easily. To master macrame patterns, such as macrame wall hanging patterns, you will follow a set of steps where the cords change as you go along. Don't worry, its simple and all the instructions are available within each pattern. Here's one to get you started!
